Relaxing at Our Camp 9/14/15

We had a relaxing morning settling in to camp and enjoying not having to hit the road. Bob helped Pat fix some things with her motor home. He's a handy guy and she was so appreciative!

A much needed light rain started and we walked to the other end of the camp and up a steep hill to the camp office and store. The owners were a nice young couple that bought the camp in 2012. They were fun to talk to and very informative. After talking to them, we decided to just hang around the area for the day and catch up a little.

We cleaned up and headed into Durango for lunch and to get some groceries. We went to the old town section and it could have been any ski resort/college/back packing/town. There was lots of young artist, hippy looking people with rows of quaint, brick shops and restaurants and heavy compact car traffic with narrow streets. It was tough manuvering with a Ram Truck. The sky cleared, we had a nice lunch in a very old building, and stocked up on groceries for our stay. Then we fought the traffic out of town and were very happy we had chosen the campground we chose by our little stream under the mountain.  Ah, the peace and quiet.

We had dinner in Pat's crockpot as she brought corned beef, potatoes and cabbage. We left that bubbling on the picnic table and walked up to ask where we might drive to view some Wildlife. The owner told us to hurry and get up to the end of the road where a ranger was guarding two bears that had been sighted. We ran back to the truck and hurried up to the corner. A mama bear and her cub were in a tree. We got to see them, but the ranger wouldn't let us stop. We were happy though and headed back to dinner smiling.

Meanwhile I got sad news that our dear friend and neighbor in Canada, Sandy Steer, had passed away.  Our hearts were heavy as we set up for dinner at our table. Pat brought me a sweet bouquet of wild flowers for our table in memory of Sandy and then said the nicest prayer. You never know what a day will bring and we surely need our friends to get though this life.

The temperature dropped and it was very dark tucked in beside the mountain. Sleep was welcomed. Tomorrow we head to Mesa Verde to hike and explore.
